Sip'N'Paint Event - March 2, 2017

Local Artists Coop hosts Sip’N’Paint Event

On March 2, 2017 the “Hog’em, Beat’em, Cheat’em Artisans of the Missouri River Valley” artists coop hosted a “Sip’N’Paint” event at the American Legion Club.  Over 20 local artists and aspiring artists attended the watercolor painting class taught by Diane Johnson and Dawn Scoffield.

The “Sip’N’Paint” event was a non-profit event and any profits from the event will be used to help finance future “Sip’N’Paint” events.

The $20.00 fee included the first glass of wine or sparkling cider, the painting class and painting supplies. At the end of the class, the attendees took home their works of art, paints, brushes, and their wine glass!

The evening started with a “social hour” where everyone was provided a glass of wine or sparkling soda. After everyone had a chance to “meet and greet” the other attendees the painting class began.

Diane and Dawn presented 3 different prospective projects and the attendees voted to select one project. The class voted to do a painting of an aspen grove based on a photograph taken by Diane.

The painting instruction was broken down into separate tasks. Each task was demonstrated jointly by Diane and Dawn. After demonstrating how to approach the task Diane, Dawn and Pam Sample visited each of the attendees to answer questions and offer help and advice.

Dawn Scoffield also presented a variety of different techniques that the artists could use to create different effects with their water color paintings.

After about 2 hours of painting each artist left with a painting of the aspen grove. It was truly fascinating to see how more than 20 different artists interpreted the same photograph and produced their own unique and beautiful paintings.

After the event the attendees were asked to complete an evaluation form and indicate if they were interested in more “Sip’N’Paint” events. The feedback was very positive and the attendees indicated they would be interested in a class using acrylic paints, Mixed Media Pebeo and drawing.

The Silver Springs Assisted Living Facility even paid the fee for several of their employees who wanted to participate.

Diane Johnson is a noted local artist from the Toston area. She has taught drawing classes through the Old Baldy Adult Education program. Diane is not only an artist, but is a photographer and published author. After a long career at the Forest Service, Diane recently retired and is now focusing on her writing.  Visit her website www.tostonsonshinepress.com to read some of her work and to view her paintings and photographs.

Dawn Scoffield is a well-known local artist who works in all mediums. She routinely wins awards for her paintings at the county fair.

Hog’em, Beat’em and Cheat’em Artisans of the Missouri River Valley is a coop of local artists. The coop is open to all local artisans and currently includes painters, photographers, stained glass artists, metal workers and wood workers. The coop would love to have local potters, quilters, weavers and carvers join too.

Currently the Artisans coop is looking for space in Townsend to open a shop to sell local Artisan’s work.
